Happy new week to you! Just wanted to stop in and say Howdy-do!

It's a new week over here at thekristiesessions and I wanted to stop in and share a few things.

First, last friday I was over at A Walk Down Memory Lane with a little post with the embossing resist technique using distress inks. I love that technique so much. It's fun and easy! Do you have distress inks? I had some a loooong while back but didn't appreciate them much and got rid of them. (also in hindsight, I didn't have very fun colors!) Now with these {not so} new mini ink pads and circle applicators, I have a whole new love for them all! I love that you can buy a set of 4 colours. Ink can get expensive so it's nice to get to try out different colours for a reasonable price. And I love that you can use them for so many techniques! Anyway, check out the post HERE if you are curious.


And here is a little HELLO card to share with you today.

This little guy was made using some white heat embossing and then colouring in spaces using Copic markers. It's a really simple treatment, but I do love the results!

As soon as I saw this Papertrey Ink set, I knew I wanted it. It took me a long time to actually get it, but I do not regret it! This card would be lovely using multiple colours for the flowers, but I love the blue and white combo too. The sentiment is a few die cuts stacked on each other. The bottom layers being white and the top blue layer off set just a bit to the side.

The Card Concept: # 23

Hey there, and welcome! The end of the year is fast approaching and today's challenge over at The Card Concept is here to celebrate just that. Here it is for ya: Krafty Christmas.

 And here is my card:

Now, I am going to be totally frank with you. I LOVE kraft card stock. I ADORE it. I want to marry it! However, since getting my groove on with things like ink blending, embossing paste and white on white designing, my kraft card stock has been sorely ignored. And believe you me, I have noticed, so I am sure it has too. Sorry Krafty! I was delighted for the challenge this week and got to crafting, pretty krafty quick.

I used the new Tinsel & Tags Make It Market Kit. at Papertrey Ink. And let me tell you, that set makes it pretty darn easy to create something stunning. I *love* product like that. It easy to use and gives you rock star results.  

I enjoyed myself so much that I actually made two cards. I couldn't help it. Krafty begged me. Here is a little tut for the second card:

I started with some snowflakes (SimonSaysStamp.com) and organised them on my block. I masked off my card base in segments and stamped different designs in each section. It kind of gave it a nice Scandinavian Christmas Pattern. Nice and subtle with the white ink.

I got a little splotchy in places. This white ink doesn't do you any favours. It just wants to go EVERYWHERE. And I am way to impatient to wait for it to dry. So it is smear-city.  To cover up the smudges I pulled out my Uniball Gel Pen (CutCardStock.com) and drew in some horizontal lines where I changed patterns and where I goobed up my paper.

I stamped and trimmed out the wreath from this Avery Elle stamp set that's been in my "to use" bin. It was happy to see ink for the first time. I think its such a lovely set! I added some hexagon enamel dots, the sentiment and this cute bow out of some Pow Glitter Paper from CutCardStock.com. I LOVE this paper. I have used it all up and have been hoarding the last scraps. The small bits are pretty pathetic until it comes in handy like on this card. I had *just* enough. SO glad I didn't throw it out! I used a die cut from Studio Calico. Love it.

And that's it! Second Krafty Christmas card done and it's not even Thanksgiving yet. That's a record for me, to be sure!

Celebrate with Tim Holtz Stencil

Hey, Howdy HEY!  Happy weekend to you all.  I picked up this new stencil by Tim Holtz called 'Doily'. I was wandering the isles of my LSS (danger Will Robinson!) and WHAMO! It smacked me right between the eyes and begged to be carried home. I could only oblige.

I wanted it to create a vintage-y, lace-y feel so I opted to use embossing paste tinted with some Fine Linen ink by Papertrey Ink.

It looks amazing after you peel it up. Do any of you gasp when you stencil? I LOVE the reveal! Makes my heart jump.

Ok, well, I couldn't quite let 'er be, so I decided to sprinkle a little bit of  Liquid Platinum Embossing powder over the top.  But I was sad to lose the linen colour so I opted to not completely cover the entire panel.

And really, it's hard to see the linen colour still, so I am happy to know that no matter which way you go (embossing or NO embossing) this stencil will make your project look great!

I had these Rosie Posie flowers from Papertrey Ink stamped up and sitting on my desk. I have this special place I put things that I think I might actually use on something else. They are always in the way! And thank heaven, these flowers only sat around for about 2 weeks before being used! That's actually a record. Usually they waste away. I have this unsightly stash of things stamped/cut/blended/stenciled that need to be put to use. I think I will try a card a week using up my stash and if these things are not gone in a few months, then out with them!!

Ok... Last but not least, the matte copper card stock you have seen before and of course the Little B die cuts. I love both of these things! You will be seeing much more of them I am sure. 

Being out of the states, I am getting creative about where I find my crafting supplies and also much more flexible about what is deemed a 'crafting supply'. I would have never thought to look at the poster board section before. Which now that I think about it, is just plain silliness. It is paper, after all. But I am so glad I did! The copper was such a lovely find.

365 Cards Ad Inspiration Challenge!

Hey folks. Today's challenge over at 365 Cards is an Ad Inspiration challenge. I was lucky enough to get to pick our ad for today. Here is what I found in my mailbox last week:

Now, I have ALWAYS loved black and white. My bedroom was decorated like that for years (at my parents house). They are my go-to colors for my wardrobe and there is just something extra special about it when you have a pop of color! This entire catalog is so much fun to look through. It has a nice 20's edge to it too which I also adore. Ok, enough chat... Here is my card for today:
It speaks for itself eh? I don't have anything to share about it really, other than I loved making it. I had some really great products that went wonderfully with the inspiration, so it pulled together quickly. One thing I did do that might need explaining, is I double stamping the leaves to give them some shadow. I used Old Olive first and then stamped the Fresh Snow on top. I like the dimension it gives.
I used a white colored pencil on the flower inside and traced the circles with a bowl for my arches. I thought that would fit the curve of the shoe from the ad nicely. I thought this sentiment was perfect too. It's the kind of thing I would think a flapper girl would say. That kind of fit the entire catalog genre to me. Very fabulous indeed.

365 Cards Score-It Week: Accordion Card

My card for todays 365 Card Score-It challenge is an accordion zig zag card. It creates a really fun result. It's not technically my day to share a tut, but I thought some of you might be interested so I put together a few shots. Here is how you do it!

Step 1: Measure your standard size card stock to 3 inches on the top and 5.5 on the bottom. Using a ruler and craft knife, cut from the first mark to the second. Resulting in a diagonal through your paper.Step 2:  Trim your card stock down to 10.5 inches (cutting off 1/2 inch from one side. I cut off my small side)

Step 3: Score at 3.5 and 7 inches.

Step 4: Fold on the score lines to make a valley fold and mountain fold. This is what your cardstock will look like. 

Step 5: Design as desired.

Here is my final card from the front. I stamped the flowers in two colors and added A LOT of stitching (this baby took some time to put together ; )I drew the stems and leaves with a pencil before piercing them and then erased the pencil marks before stitching. I also added stitching and a loose french knot to each flower head.Here is the card fully open. You can see why this took so long! I sponged the edges of the card with some white ink.Here is a little detail of the sentiment. I learned a few things making this card. If you plan on stitching, I advise to do it on panels and then adhere the panels to the actual card base. 

I had to adhere CS to the back side to hide the stitching. But this also gives me a good surface to write a message but it does add bulk and maybe doesn't look so nice ; )

Take-Off Tuesday # 22

Happy Tuesday everybody! How are you enjoying your week so far? Hope you are all well. Todays Take-Off is from Serena & Lily again. I loved this neutral room. I have been into bright things lately so much that I forget you can use only neutrals and come up with a lovely creation.

Here is my take:
I used cream, kraft, white and grey. Unfortunately these colors are not easy to photograph. (who knew!?) So through lightening the photo the embossing looks a little freaky. I used silver to emboss the three images, and they are indeed matted with grey.

In honor of Score-It week over at 365 Cards, I used my Score-It Mini to add lines throughout the card. Hopefully you can see if you click to enlarge. I did double lines vertically and one horizontal line under the three flowers. You will hear me gush about the Score-It Mini ALLL week! This thing is so great to have. I love that I could score in lines to bring out one of the ideas I like from my Take-Off photo. I love that it is small so it fits in the drawer and I don't have to have it on my desk 24/7. Its just great!

365 Cards Score-It Challenge: Money Holder

Good Day to you! Today's challenge at 365 Cards is a money holder. Since I was in Easter mode this weekend, I decided to do money holder's for the kids for Easter. And honestly I'm not really into giving money to my kids, especially for a religious holiday, but I was putting together baskets and Ronin asked if he would get a basket AND a card, and I wanted to do the challenge so I just went with it.

Anyway, I was browsing around on-line and found this great money holder from Nicole's Blog for Papertrey Ink. She has a post on how to make this wonderful Bank Book and Box. You can view her template and tutorial  HERE. It was SO great because you just print the template out onto your cardstock, score, cut and design. 

Here is the first one I did. You tie the dollars into the book with some twine/floss. I only added a few since they are little and don't really need a lot (if any)! I decided to put the kids names on the outside of the boxes so they could identify them. I added the Easter sentiment to the actual bank book. I used a belly stamp from the Wise Old Owl Bellies set to make the background for R's book and the egg in his name.
Here is second one. I used the same bellies to make him three eggs for the front of his card. I added some stickles to his money holder and some stitching. The 'happy' is from the Birthday Basics Set and the 'Easter' is from the Lotus Midwest Modern Alphabet set by Amy Butler.

365 Cards: Eggs-cellent!

I love love love todays challenge! I don't really know why, but I am excited about eggs. I think they are schwelll! (that a little Sean Connery for ya!) So I realized I have NO egg stamps, embellishments or even paper. Wow, I can't believe I admitted that considering all the junk I do have! You would think there would be something hiding somewhere, but alas, twas not....

But I DO have an oval punch and thought it would suffice for making some eggs. So here is my card:

I punched out three different ovals and stamped on them with white to decorate them up a bit. Those are actually 3 different colored paper (melon, tangerine, berry sorbet) but the color is a bit off.  I double stamped the background using the Lined Notes CHF backgrounder (I used it a few times) and then stamped polka dots over top. I was a bit concerned about how it would turn out, but I actually like the results.

I decided the eggs needed a little extra oomph so I enlisted my favorite embellishments for the task. I can't seem to get out of a card without using at least one of these items and my drawers are stuffed with them!

So that's it for today. I have been baby sitting an extra little body this week and she has been taking up a lot of time, but it has finally come to an end, so I am breaking out my crafts and am feeling like myself again!

You can probably see all of them but Around & About Sentiments. I used the outline circle from that set to add a third circle to the Guide Lines Stamp. I stamped Lemon Tart with SU! Summer Sun which adds a great punch. The pink is SU! Pink Passion, although in hindsight I have no idea why I didn't use Raspberry Fizz. It's almost the same thing, but so much better.

And here is my card!
That ribbon looks like Pure Poppy, but I assure you its actually Raspberry Fizz. Darn Camera.
I popped up the little bunny from the Bitty Blessings set to add to my tag. Hope you like!  Can't wait to see what everyone else whipped up. Papertrey Ink Blog Hop always has the most amazing entries and it's so fun to hop around and see them, so that is what I am going to go do!

365 Cards: Ad Inspired!

It's Wednesday again! Yeah for Wednesday's!!!

 Today is my day at 365 Cards and we have an Ad Inspiration for you! Here is the ad:

I love the contrast of color on white and white on color. So I used that as the main idea in my card. Here is my take:
I used my Gel-A-Tins Big & Wild Things set. I LOVE this set. I has such great silhouette images!! I also think their acrylic is a really great quality. I highly recommend them! Anyway, I popped up each layer to give dimension. I love the black with these colors.

Tri-Fold Card

I originally started this card out as a tri-fold, but the folds ended up not being in even 3rds. The top flap is a bit shorter so its an envelope and card in one! You slip off the ribbon to open the flap.

I hand stamped the damask image and the polka dots with some SU! Pink Passion ink. This color stamped on the Summer Sunrise paper ended up changing the look of the pink a bit. So I actually used PTI Berry Sorbet when I stamped on white card stock because it was closer to what the Pink Passion and Summer Sunrise looked combined. Does that make sense? Regardless, I like the contrast of the colors!

Inside you can see I placed a note card to write on with a little rose to add interest. This is a great way to make up a card that will be hand delivered. It looks prettier than a regular white envelope!

365 Cards: Giving It All You've Got

Today's challenge over at 365 Cards is to use 5 different patterned papers and 5 different embellishments. The reason; you can add a lot to a card without it being TOO much. I present to you my card:

I used different patterned paper from the same pack and 5 embellishments. I realize they are all the same (buttons) but they are different sizes, so it still has variety and is "different" in my book ; ) What do you think? I love this Black & White paper pack by Papertrey Ink. Its bold and beautiful (and B&W) just like I like it!! Add a little purple punch and some machine stitching and I have "given it all I've got!"
