365 Sketchy Sunday : Paper Popsicles Sponsor!!

Good Sunday to you. Today starts up our sponsor week at 365 Cards. Welcome Paper Popsicles!!! Lets hear the cheer people. Paper! Popsicles! (I just love their name).

Here is Pam's sketch we worked with:
And my card using the bird image from Paper Popsicles:
I printed my digistamp onto linen vellum and then colored it with some markers. Then, I had a serious mishap.. i.e. lots of ripping! (I was trying to stitch, but you know, it all fell apart!) So I thought... "Before I throw this out, lets see what will happen if"...  So I crinkled up my paper. Dabbed my craft sheet with some distressing ink and rubbed my bird in it. And this my friends, is what happens when you do that! I really liked the result, so I didn't bother printing out a new image.

You can see the nice ink coverage which I love with the linen texture coming through. I added some background stamping for my card base, some ribbon, a button, scallops and a sentiment.

I was quite surprised at my color choice today. I was originally trying to make more brown and orange work with the image but it was all just blending together and looking rather BLAH. The blue really helps my robin red breast pop and its also a nice contrast for the green. I love being pleasantly surprised!

Ok. Thats it for now. But this entire week be sure to play along at 365 Cards to be entered into win some nice love from Paper Popsicles. Now how can you say no to that??? There will be lots of fun things to look at this week, especially holiday stuff, so stay tuned!!

Hope your day is peaceful and fine.

Quick Birthday Gift/Card

Hey there Thursday goers! Yesterday there was a birthday going on and I wanted to give something but hadn't actually thought through anything other than that I wanted to do something! A little boy with a birthday, what to do??? I pulled out some Cosmo Cricket paper and whipped up this card. Aren't those fire/race car chipboard alphas fabulous!?

The Happy Birthday is hand stamped but I drew in the black pen border on the red paper. The zig zag is actual bare chipboard, which is also a lot of fun to play with too. Then I thought "How lame is this card to a little boy unless there isn't a gift???" So I pulled out a bakery box from Pink Persimmon and got to work. Boy! Are those babies handy!
I wrapped up the box with some more Cosmo Cricket papers. The box is a great size without odd measurements so it was SUPER fast to cut papers out and use them to alter the look of this box. I markered the edges with a black marker so the original color (pink!) wouldn't show through. Didn't think that would be cool for a 4 yr old boy. I didn't do too much flouncy-flounce to it since it was for a boy. Just added some ribbon and was done.
Do you want to know what is inside? Do ya.... do ya???
Would you believe these boxes fit 2 play dough containers PERFECTLY! I couldn't have asked for a better way to give this gift. I think even a bunch of small play doughs would be great and thats just ONE idea. The possibilities for these great boxes are endless and I hope to show you even more uses for them throughout the holidays and into the new year. You just wait! So I packaged this all up and doorbell ditched them in a matter of an hour. Really quick birthday gift to put together (well, fairly quick ; )

How is your thursday??? Tonight I am editing lots of photos (all of which I hope to share with you at some point before Christmas) and also I have some music to practice. The DH and I are putting on a little Christmas devotional for the youth in our church in a matter of 3 weeks and we REALLY need some serious help. So we are practicing every night. We hope not to make a fool of ourselves! Hope you are all well!

365 Cards: Do That Decade!!

Oh boy guys, is today's 365 Cards challenge fun! Do that decade: 1980-1989. Which means use this time period to inspire your card. Well, I was younger during that decade, so there are only a few things that really ring true for me. Here is my card... can you guess what was my inspiration??

Well, I lived through the 80's stacking and rolling down my socks (hence the three different colored papers with lines and curved edges. Doesn't that just remind you of cuffed socks!?)  I also wore A LOT of jelly bracelets. Unfortunately we are fresh out of jellies here in our house, but I found this leather cord that worked pretty well. I also added some mirror paper to add a bit of flash to it. I think that helps bring out a bit of a  'rocker' side for the card.

So what do you think?? What inspires you from the 80's? There is so much out there, it would be hard to stop creating (think Michael Jackson, Madonna, Punk music, teen movies) Oh the possibilities are endless!!

Anyway. Thats all for me today. Get your 80's groove on and get creating!!!

365 Cards: Sketchy Sunday!!

Whew! I feel like I haven't recovered yet from the craziness of this last week. But, Sketchy Sunday stops for no wo-Man!
Here is today's sketch:

I really loved this sketch when I looked at it. I still love it, but for some reason my card has left me wanting more.... I think my mojo has taken the day off!!

Ugh. Can I just say I am not happy with this card. not. happy. But, Happy November 1st to you all! My card is an interesting array of things. Some sandpapering, some inking, and do you see that mirror paper peeking out from under the sun?? My DH brought that home for me. It was a bit of a promo thing-y they were doing, or something like that. I think they were going to put it on one of his sets,  but he said no and brought home the sample! Thanks! It is shiny and fun and I thought it would help chase some gloomies away.

How are you doing on this Sunday? Did you make it through October ok? Can you believe we still have so many holidays ahead of us to celebrate? Boy they come fast. I realized the kindergartener is off at least one day every week this month. That's a lot of time off for fun!

Anyway. I think a nap today is in order. It's the only way to set my body straight. This cold that has been 'coming on' for the last week or so is still here and changing every day. Now I am sneezing a ton (not good for the bladder!) and my nose is running. totally lame! Hopefully sleep will help and if it doesn't at least it will feel good for a bit.

See you and thanks for stopping by!

Pink Persimmon Halloween Treat Box

Today is the day everyone! I am busy putting on a Halloween party at church so I will not be around, but wanted to share with you a little something I made for giving out treats this year. Our first official year of trick or treating! (that's one of the perks of living in the 'burbs!)

This is my new 'holiday' box. There are so many things you can do with a box when you decorate it for an occasion. This is the first of many times I hope to use this box. I purchased it from Michael's and stained it a nice natural color. I used Pink Persimmon's Large Banner Set and Carnival Alphas set to spell out Trick Or Treat.  You might not be able to see the black glitter that I added to the letters to help them stand out and then I added some eyelets and a few Halloween die cuts to finish it off.

We are doing a trunk or treat for the kids today, so this baby will come in handy. I have already started working on what I can do with this box for both Thanksgiving and Christmas so I hope you will keep checking back. Be sure to check out Pink Persimmon's website for all their great stamps. A few of which have just been released!

Thanks for stopping by. I will see you tomorrow, Nov. 1! And I promise.... no more halloween cards!!!! ('til next year ; )
